McSmiths Strawbale House 2005.......2007
Finally we are building our dream house . We were able to cut enough White Pine from our forest to use as the timber frame. Gary designed the house to be very energy efficient using straw bales as insulation , radiant floor heating and solar panels

On Feb 10th 2005 we poured the cement floor over the radiant heating floor pipes in the basement.
Kitec tubing has been set out on main floor
before cement is poured
May 05/05   Ben Polley and crew applied the stucco exterior directly onto the strawbales......we would be applying the final coat which will have a creamy yellow tint.

We had good fall weather which allowed us to put on the pine board and baton..........lots of scaffolding needed!!!!
We decided to stain the white pine beams using a very environmentally and user friendly product from Sansin.....we are using " Ipwich pine " shade. The interior walls will be plastered and coloured in complimentary shades
Our  " TRUTH  Window "
Chicken symbol plastered into kitchen wall
.All the windows are rounded in ..because of the strawbale construction...we are anxious to finish them with solid wood trim and some window seats

FINALLY   a comfortable spot to do some sitting and reading
